Indian wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha is currently off the national duty but he hasn’t put his feet up. Saha is currently playing for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy and preparing for the season ahead. One of the finest keepers in the current scenario, Saha’s technique behind the stumps has been praised by many greats. He has kept wickets against the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav and has seen batsmen falter against them.
Saha candidly spoke about the difference between the Indian bowlers from keeper’s point of view. In an interview with SportsWallah, Saha shared his experience of keeping to the Indian spinners and how they are different from each other.
“Yes, I have the experience to keep all three of them. They are very different types of bowlers. Ashwin and Jadeja are completely different from each other. Ashwin has plenty of variations. You never know what is coming from his hand the next ball. Ashwin not only keeps the batsman guessing, the wicket-keeper has to be on his feet also during every delivery he bowls.” he said.
Jadeja likes to vary his speed: Saha
“Jadeja, on the other hand, likes to fool the batsman by varying his speed. Kuldeep is of course very difficult to pick. The idea of a Chinaman spinner itself is very uncanny. Still I will say that keeping against Ashwin is more difficult than keeping against Kuldeep,” he added.
Australia poor against quality spinners: Saha
On Australia’s lack of success against spin bowling, Saha said “Actually Australian batsmen panic against quality spin attack. It’s not that only Kuldeep has disturbed them, they suffer against any world class spinner. I would not comment on their technical aspects, but they come under mental stress while facing a spinner, thus making it easier for a spinner to dominate”.
