The Indian team led by Virat Kohli beat the English team 2-1 in a closely fought series where 300+ scores were scored and chased or almost on all occasions. After a series ruled by the batsmen the Indian team, management has decided to rest the two key Indian spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja for the 3-match Twenty20 series starting January 26.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also announced two replacements for the duo in Jammu and Kashmir off-spinner Parvez Rasool and leg-spinner Amit Mishra. Announcing the decision the BCCI tweeted, – ” NEWS ALERT – @ashwinravi99 & @imjadeja rested for T20Is, @MishiAmit & Parvez Rasool to replace the duo in the team #TeamIndia #INDvENG”

While the wicket at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata had assistance for the pacers the life for the spinners was pretty tough right through. Jadeja with his variation in pace and accuracy came in handy and surprised the batsmen more often than not. But that was not the case with Ashwin who had a tough time managing to stop the flow of runs.

The left-arm spinner picked 4 wickets in the series and almost made a bunny out of Jason Roy dismissing the English opener in all the three matches. Ashwin on the other hand, failed to translate his Test form and was taken to the cleaners and remained wicket-less in the first and last ODI spending a total of 123 runs. He got three key wickets in the second match though but again had an expensive economy.

Amit Mishra was a part of the ODI series team but didn’t get a game that after picking a five-wicket haul in the last ODI that he was fielded in against New Zealand. The veteran would hope he can prove his effectiveness in the T20 series and make a case for a consistent consideration.

It is a great chance for Parvez Rasool who has played just his debut ODI for India thus far. He picked 2 wickets in the match but wasn’t able to convince the selectors enough to hold onto him. Rasool went back to domestic cricket and bagged a bulk load of wickets to be reconsidered once again.
