India’s leading spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has retained the second spot in the latest ICC Test rankings released today. Ashwin has been the pillar stone of the Indian bowling line up in the last couple of years, especially in the sub-continent.

He has 871 points to his name and is just one point behind England’s Stuart Broad, who has 872 points to his name. English bowler James Anderson has made it back to the top three in the rankings after a stunning 10-wicket haul against Sri Lanka at Headingley. Anderson earned 49 points for his performance, which has put him on a career-high 854 points.

Ravi Ashwin has the best strike-rate among all spinners in the last couple of years with a strike rate of 43.1 and has also taken 7 five-wicket hauls and 2 ten-wicket hauls. He was the leading wicket-taker when the Indian team routed the South Africans during their tour to India last year.

He bagged 72 wickets in the last couple of years. Recently, spin bowling legend Muttiah Muralitharan also named Ravichandran Ashwin and Sri Lanka’s Rangana Herath as the two best spinners of the modern era.

Pakistan’s Yasir Shah has taken the 4th spot and is followed by Dale Steyn, who is placed at 5th position. Sadly, for the Indian fans, no Indian batsman feature in the top 10 of the ICC batsmen rankings. The batsmen rankings is topped by the Australian skipper Steve Smith, who has 925 points to his name.

England’s Joe Root and New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson follow in at the next two spots with 876 and 868 points respectively. South Africa’s Hashim Amla and veteran Pakistan batsman Younis Khan are the ones who follow in the next two places.
