Ravichandran Ashwin reveals his intention to watch Babar Azam live

India’s spin bowling sensation Ravichandran Ashwin isn’t famous only for his on-field exploits but also his comments in the social media world. In his latest Twitter post, the off-spinner talks about his fondness for the young Pakistani batsman, Babar Azam, who has been in top form against a debilitated West Indies side.

The belligerent No.3 has compiled two back to back centuries in the first 2 ODIs and has looked extremely threatening. Ashwin, who is set to fly to Indore with the rest of the Indian team for the third and final Test of the series against New Zealand starting 8th October, revealed his desire to watch Babar in action against West Indies in the third ODI today, and is “hoping to reach Indore in time”.

The 21-year-old Babar has been hailed as the next big thing in Pakistan cricket with his recent prolific performances. He was dismissed only once in the T20Is and had a fifty to his name, he has made it big in the first two ODIs with scores of 120 and 123.

He remains a very important prospect for Pakistan, looking for valuable ranking points through a 3-0 whitewash in a bid for automatic qualification for the 2019 World Cup, for which they have to be among the top 8 teams. Ashwin has been on a bit of a role himself in the Test series, in which he is the leading wicket-taker with 14 scalps from 2 Tests, including one that made him the second fastest to 200 Test wickets.

This camaraderie between India and Pakistan cricketers is good to see considering the recent political events that have unfolded as well as the fragile cricketing ties between the two nations. With Babar Azam already in action with Pakistan batting first in the third ODI, let’s hope Ashwin reached in time to watch the promising talent in action live.
