Ravichandran Ashwin takes a dig at the political situation in his home state Tamil Nadu
Cricketers often tend to play it safe; it is seldom that someone talks about anything apart from their own game. But Ravichandran Ashwin isn’t your regular diplomatic cricketer; he believes in expressing his views out in the public and uses social media as his tool for reaching out. Recently when the Chief Minister of his home state of Tamil Nadu O Panneerselvam resigned and suggested the legislators of his party to chose VK Sasikala as their leader Ashwin decided to tweet about it.
He took a dig at the proposed CM candidate Sasikala and said that the youth of TN should be excited since 234 new job opportunities will open up shortly in the state. The number 234 here signifies the number of legislators the ruling party AIADMK has in the state assembly. Ashwin wrote- “To all the youngsters in TN, 234 job opportunities to open up shortly.”
The off-spinner is currently in Hyderabad as the Indian Test team prepares to take on neighbors Bangladesh for the first time in a Test match at home in a one-off match series.
As far as the reason for the tweet is concerned. It is not proving to be the most popular decision among the masses in Tamil Nadu and a majority who supported former CM J Jayalalithaa and voted for AIADMK in the elections wouldn’t want Sasikala to take over the reins despite her being a close associate of the late populist leader.

Since the demise of Jayalalithaa who was a strong leader who represented the masses of the state and was affectionately referred to as ‘Amma’ (mother) there has been a sense of political unrest in TN with Panneerselvam deciding to quite from office citing personal issues to be a reason the situation is set to get worse.
Here are some reactions to his tweet:
