Ravichandran Ashwin voted as the Player of the Week in County Championship poll
Along with Ashwin, former English skipper Paul Collingwood also got 35 per cent of votes.
Ace Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is currently plying his trade for team Worcestershire in the ongoing County Championship. He joined the Worcs roster about a month ago after he was not picked in the Indian squad for the limited overs series against Sri Lanka. With no international cricket action beckoning him, Ashwin opted to spend his time wisely and improvise on his skills.
He chose to play for Worcestershire as their overseas players and joined the team soon. He had a brilliant start to his County career as he picked a five wicket haul in a County Division 2 fixture against the Gloucestershire team. Earlier in the game, he had picked up three wickets in the first innings. In the match, the Gloucs needed 401 runs to win on the final day of the match.
Ashwin, who had already bagged two wickets on the penultimate day of the game, scalped three more on the final day to complete his maiden County five wicket haul. Ravichandran Ashwin returned with figures of 5/68 in his 34 overs as his team Worcestershire registered a comprehensive win. The official social media handle of the County Championships came up with a Twitter poll at the end of the week.
They asked the fans to pick their Div 2 Player of the Week. Well, no surprises in the results came their way. It was Ravichandran Ashwin who got 35 per cent of votes. Along with Ashwin, former English skipper Paul Collingwood also got 35 per cent of votes. Collingwood had scored a brilliant ton for Durham in their thumping win over Derbyshire.
“Wow, it came down to just a few votes, but your Div Two Player of the Week is @ashwinravi99! Probably due to deliveries like this,” the official Twitter handle of the County Championship wrote.
