India got their title defence underway when they defeated a lowly Pakistan at Edgbaston on Sunday. Pakistan never looked like winning the game as they adopted a very defensive strategy throughout the course of the rain-curtailed encounter. In the end, they fell short by 124 runs in pursuit of India’s stiff target.

India were slow to start their batting but made up for it by striking clean shots at the end of the innings. Their bowling was very disciplined and was helped by some appalling Pakistan batting who never showed any intent in trying to get their target. MS Dhoni did not have much to do in the game apart from taking one catch behind the stumps. Ravindra Jadeja had a terrific outing and warmed up well for sterner challenges that lie ahead. Like Dhoni, Jadeja also did not get a chance to bat but the Saurashtra lad affected a brilliant run out of a dangerous looking Shoaib Malik and returned with decent figures of 2/43. The all-rounder also took a sharp catch at point to send the in-form Babar Azam back to the pavilion in the 13 the over.

Jadeja catches Dhoni napping

Jadeja posted a picture of him and Dhoni in which the former was taking a snooze during a bus journey. India are scheduled to play Sri Lanka on Thursday at The Oval in London. Now London is just 2 hours drive away from Birmingham but the former Indian skipper decided to take a little nap which prompted Jadeja to click a picture.

India will be relieved that they won’t be required to travel anymore till they play the rest of their group games as both their remainder games will be played in London. After Sri Lanka, the defending champions will lock horns with South Africa on Sunday.
