Ravindra Jadeja jumps into top 3 in the latest ICC Test rankings
Virat Kohli remains at the second position while Steve Smith leads the list of top 10 batsmen.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the latest Test rankings after the conclusion of the second Test match between Sri Lanka and Windies. The hard-fought game was ended in a draw as the hosts managed to weather the storm of the Sri Lankan bowlers. The player of the match Shannon Gabriel, after his 13-wicket haul, has managed to jump to 12th position for the first time in his career. However, Ravindra Jadeja has also gained one place to reach the third spot in the bowlers’ rankings.
Gabriel has now reached his career-best 754 rating points after returning with the figures of 13/121 in the St. Lucia Test match. Roston Chase and Jason Holder have also gained one place each for their heroics with the bat in the first game of the series. Kusal Mendis has also benefitted for his brilliance as he also jumped four places to reach his career-best 12th spot in the batsmen rankings. Even Dinesh Chandimal has gained one spot and is now at the ninth position in the list of top 10 batsmen.
What about India?
ICC has also taken into account the historic Test match between India and Afghanistan in the latest rankings update. The hosts managed to win the game easily by an innings and 262 runs and are still at the number 1 position leading second-placed South Africa by 13 points. The spinner Ravindra Jadeja who picked 6 wickets in the game has inched up one place and is settled at the third position in the bowlers’ rankings.
The centurions in the Test, Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan, have also been rewarded for their heroics as they are now at 23rd and 24th position respectively. Afghanistan players also made an entry in the Test rankings for the first time and their leggie Rashid Khan has started off with the 119th position. He is currently the top-ranked bowler in T20Is and second in ODIs. The impressive pace bowler Yamin Ahmadzai has accumulated the 94th position in the list of the bowlers.
