Jadeja's wife Riva Solanki is with BJP.
Ravindra Jadeja is currently playing for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). He will be on the field on Saturday at the Eden Gardens to face the hosts Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). At the same time, a political shift is taking place at home for the cricketer. Jadeja’s father Anirudhsinh is set to join politics today ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in India.
He will be joining Congress party and most probably contest the elections from Jamnagar area in Gujarat from where the Jadeja belongs. This is an interesting situation in the cricketer’s family as Ravindra Jadeja’s wife Riva Solanki is part of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP). The local news channel TV9 Gujarati confirmed the news of Anirudhsinh joining Congress on Saturday.
The voting process of the General Elections have started in India and the first phase was completed on April 11. Voting in Gujarat will take place on April 23 during the third phase.
Gambhir also joined politics
This is not the first time that the cricketer of his family member is joining politics. In a recent happening, the former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir joined BJP to contest elections in Delhi from his area. He had retired from cricket only last year and since then it was being speculated that the left-hander and India’s World Cup hero will be starting his political career soon.
But Gambhir had earlier denied all the speculations saying that those are rumours. But it came as a shocking development for his fans when the news of him joining the politics became official. Mohammad Azharuddin, Navjyot Singh Sidhu, Mohammad Kaif are few of the Indian cricketers who joined politics after their successful cricketing career.
Imran Khan, Pakistan World Cup-winning captain in 1992, is now the Prime Minister of his country as he was elected at the position only last year.
