Former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin had some time off on Tuesday (October 12). Hence, he decided to interact with fans on social media. Taking to Twitter, the talismanic cricketer wrote: “Ask me anything about my favourite topic – Fielding. Sitting idle for the next hour.” For the unversed, Azharuddin is widely regarded as one of the sharpest Indian fielders ever.
Be it stopping the ball near the boundary ropes or taking jaw-dropping catches in slips, Azharuddin was a bowler’s delight at every position of the field. Many prominent cricketers have also hailed the Azharuddin’s eagle eyes and quick reflexes. While the 58-year-old isn’t an active cricketer anymore, his love for fielding is still intact. Owing to the same, he asked netizens to fire questions and queries regarding fielding.
Mohammed Azharuddin names his fab five fielders
After coming across the post, CricTracker asked Azharuddin to name his fab five fielders in the world at the moment. The Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) seemed pretty clear about his thoughts as he didn’t take long in answering the query. Ravindra Jadeja, Glenn Maxwell, Ben Stokes, Suresh Raina, and David Warner are the names featuring in Azharuddin’s elite list.

All these players have been a force to reckon with on the field and hence, Azharuddin’s choice was lauded by one and all. One of the finest all-rounders going around, Jadeja is a swift runner which helps him covering long distances in no time. Jadeja also has a rocket-fast arm through which he has effected numerous run-outs.
Jadeja’s former Indian teammate Suresh Raina might not be an active international cricketer anymore. However, he still showcases his fielding prowess in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Raina is particularly brilliant in taking difficult catches. Australia duo David Warner and Glenn Maxwell have also impressed Azharuddin with their fielding skills.
With both cricketers having sharp reflexes, it’s not easy for batters to make the ball go past them. One of the hottest properties in world cricket at moment, Ben Stokes completes the list. During a Test match against West Indies last year, Stokes stopped a boundary from long-on of his own bowling.
