India head coach Ravi Shastri, on Sunday, raised concerns over Ravindra Jadeja’s fitness saying that he wasn’t completely fit for the Perth Test. He also claimed that the all-rounder was feeling discomfort when he played Ranji Trophy as well which has created quite a bit of stir in the Indian cricket. Saurashtra coach also refuted all these claims and joining him is India’s chief selector MSK Prasad.
Shastri had told reporters a couple of days ago that Jadeja had taken injections due to his shoulder injury and was only deemed fit ahead of the Melbourne Test. A lot of questions were raised on the team management and the doubts surfaced if the all-rounder was even fit to tour Australia.
MSK clears the air
Meanwhile, during the announcement of India’s playing XI, MSK Prasad cleared all the air about Ravindra Jadeja and his fitness. He stated that the cricketer was absolutely fit when the selection panel picked the Test squad after which he went on to play Ranji Trophy matches to bowl close to 60 overs.
“On the eve of any selection meeting, the selection committee is given a fitness report of all the players. In that report, Jadeja was absolutely fit. So we picked him. After we picked him, he went and played Ranji Trophy also, he bowled 60 overs [64, against Railways]. So there is no question of him being unfit at the time of selection,” he said.
When asked if he knew anything about Jadeja taking injections on the tour due to his health issues, Prasad added, “Yes, it is a process. Whenever a health issue comes up, we have a group in which it is being placed. All that is looked after by the physio, and they have very clearly given it in the statement,” Prasad said when asked about Jadeja’s second injection.”
Amidst all the drama ahead of the Boxing Day Test, Jadeja has been included in the playing XI as the specialist spinner with Ravi Ashwin failing to recover in time.
