Ravindra Jadeja was inconsolable after India’s loss, says his wife Rivaba Jadeja

At 92/6 while chasing 240, India looked down and out of the match despite MS Dhoni out there in the middle. Ravindra Jadeja came out to bat at number eight and played some exquisite strokes to leave New Zealand shocked. The scoreboard started to move at pace and suddenly, the Indian fans were once again hopeful. Jadeja came down the ground to whack James Neesham out of the park and it infused momentum to the innings.

Dhoni was also felt confident at the other end and the veteran handled things superbly advising his partner every now and then. In no time, Jadeja had crossed the 50-run mark and raced to 77 off just 59 balls before getting out in the 48th over of the innings with the pressure increasing. The onus was on MS Dhoni then to take the team home but he, unfortunately, got run-out in the penultimate over which ended India’s hopes.

The Indian team and the fans were left dejected after the loss. But Ravindra Jadeja was left heartbroken more than anyone as he was the one who had reignited the hopes. He believed that India would’ve won if he hadn’t gotten out according to his wife Rivaba Jadeja.

It really hurts

“He was inconsolable after the loss and kept saying, ‘If I wouldn’t have got out, we could’ve won’. When you lose a match after coming this close, it really hurts and it will be a while before he comes to terms with it,” Jadeja’s wife said while speaking to Bombay Times.

Commenting on Ravindra Jadeja’s blitzkrieg, Rivaba wasn’t surprised at all. She was of the opinion that her husband always performs for the team in the big games and over the years, has been India’s go-to man in the crunch encounters.

“If you look at his journey, he has always performed in crunch games, taking wickets and scoring vital runs. When we won the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013, he was the man of the match in the final for his all-round performance,” she further said.
