Mumbai Indians (MI) beat Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 6 wickets in the 41st IPL match at the Chinnaswamy stadium. Chasing 152 to win, Mumbai Indians had lost Parthiv Patel early, but Ambati Rayudu consolidated and anchored the innings, to score a patient 44 off 47 balls and thus laid the foundation for the chase.
During his knock, Rayudu hit Varun Aaron for a huge six over the bowler’s head, which landed on the second tier of the stadium. The monstrous hit was 108 metres long.
Kieron Pollard who is celebrating his 29th birthday today, gifted himself and his team a great win when he finished the match in style along with Jos Buttler of England. The performances from Pollard have been crucial for Mumbai this season as all of them had come in crucial junctures, when his team needs the most.
The team celebrated Pollard’s birthday and the win back at the hotel where Rayudu had a special gift for the West Indian. Rayudu gifted him his bat and asked him to try and beat his longest six record of 108 metres, which is the third longest six of this season, behind 111m six of AB de Villiers and 109m six of Shane Watson.
It will be interesting to see Pollard coming out to the crease in the next match with Rayudu’s bat and start trying to hit balls out of the ground. This is exactly what the Mumbai Indians fans would love to see as well, to take up this challenge and come out to smash opposing bowlers all around the ground.
