RCB captain Virat Kohli fined for slow over rate
The Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore picked up their second win of the IPL against the Rising Pune Supergiants. However, there was a tinge of bad news that followed the win for skipper Virat Kohli as he was stuck with a hefty fine for slow over rate. Reports suggest that the fine amounted to Rs. 12 Lakhs.
The skipper put up a fine display of batting along with his teammate AB de Villiers as they both slammed brisk half-centuries. The amazing batting efforts from the ‘superhumans’ of international cricket at the moment ensured a 13-run win over the MS Dhoni-led franchise.
Having lost the toss, the Royal Challengers were sent into bat and rode on De Villiers’ 83 off 46 balls with the help of six boundaries and two sixes and Kohli’s 80 off 63 deliveries, during which he struck seven fours and two hits over the fence, to post 185 for five. The bowlers eventually held their nerves as they restricted the Supergiants to 172 in their quota of 20 overs.
A statement released read: “Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli has been fined after the team maintained a slow over rate during last evening’s VIVO IPL match against RPS.
“Since it was his first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr Kohli was fined Rs 12 lakh,” the IPL said in a statement.
The subsequent offence, should Kohli be found guilty of slow over-rate once more, the fine is estimated to be Rs. 24 Lakhs. A third offence, should the RCB skipper be guilty of one, would be a hefty fine and a subsequent one-match ban.
