The Delhi Capitals (DC) clashed against the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the second match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) on Sunday to start their respective campaigns. And the game has turned out to be a roller-coaster ride for both the teams. After opting to bowl first, the KXIP bowlers did extremely well thanks to Mohammed Shami who spit venom with his every delivery and picked three wickets.

For almost 17 overs, the KL Rahul-led side had a lid on the scoring rate only for the pace bowlers to go horribly wrong in the death overs. Marcus Stoinis was their nemesis who literally plucked the feathers out of the likes of Sheldon Cottrell and Chris Jordan in the last three overs after coming in to bat at six. When he arrived to the middle, the team was in doldrums at 86/4 and were soon reduced to 96/6 after 16 overs.

But the Australian was setting himself up for a grand finish and little did KXIP know what was going to hit them. A total of 57 runs came in the last three overs with Marcus Stoinis scoring almost all the runs barring the three runs off the last ball and a couple of extras. He plundered seven fours and three huge maximums on his way to the third fastest fifty ever for the Delhi franchise.

RCB fans left wondering why Marcus Stoinis didn’t shine for them

Marcus Stoinis was with the Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the last season and hadn’t fared badly with the bat. He had scored 211 runs in the season after facing 156 deliveries but his bowling was under the radar. He just picked a couple of wickets while conceding runs at an economy of 8.70.

However, his strike-rate with the bat was 135.25 and average of 52.75 proved that he did justice to his role. But the RCB franchise decided to release him and picked Chris Morris as they were in search of an all-rounder who could bat at six or seven. But the fans seem to be targeting the move now and are also trolling the man from down under for not performing the same way while he was with the RCB.
