RCB had spent 10.2 Cr in the mock auction for buying Chris Morris, reveals Mike Hesson
RCB also bought Aaron Finch and Dale Steyn in the IPL 2020 auction.
IPL auction always comes up with the blessing for the prolific domestic and international cricketers across the globe. All the franchises lavishly spend money on the cricketers in order to grab their services for the T20 tournament. However, the players usually get picked up on the basis of their recent performances and individual impact on the game.
The same happened in IPL auction 2020 where RCB came out with their preferred choices and they successfully managed to get those players. Now, Royal Challengers Bangalore have released a video in which Mike Hesson and Simon Katch can be spotted rehearsing about their strategy before in the mock auction.
RCB has a humongous fan following across the country and glob, although they have never lifted a single IPL trophy. But due to their star-studded line-up, they are reckoned as one of the favourites to win the tournament. For the upcoming season, the franchise has recruited Mike Hesson as the director of operations and Simon Katich as the head coach. Under the new team management, RCB released a total of 12 players in the auction pool including Dale Steyn earlier this year in November after trade window came to its end.
Royal Challenge Bangalore bought eight players in IPL 2020 auction
However, the franchise bought a total of eight players but one player that hogged the spotlight was South African all-rounder Chris Morris. RCB paid a whopping fee of 10 crores INR in order to grab his services. Now, comes a video that revealed the exact strategy of RCB in order to rope the Proteas player in their side.
The Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise’s Twitter account shared a video recently that featured the mock auction in which Katich and Hesson could be spotted engaged in the bidding- war over the name of Morris. The interesting fact was that Hesson took the bid to 10 Crore as he was ready to splash such a hefty amount for the 32-year-old. However, he backed out after 10.2 Cr and the bid was won by the Katich.
It was pretty clear from the clip that RCB came with a plan that if they got Morris at a price below 10.2 Cr then it is appropriate to have him in the team. Otherwise, they will leave the Proteas player for other franchises. However, they successfully got Morris after winning a bidding war against KXIP and Mumbai Indians.
