Nothing seems to be going in favour of the five-time champions Mumbai Indians in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 so far. The Men in Blue were in a big trouble at the halfway stage in their innings in the game against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium Pune. However, they managed to cross the 150-run mark, due to batting heroics from Suryakumar Yadav.

RCB skipper Faf du Plessis after winning the toss, invited the five-time champions to bat first. Openers Ishan Kishan and skipper Rohit Sharma played very cautiously in first half of the field restrictions. However, as soon as they got their eyes in, both Sharma and Kishan started to hit boundaries.

The duo stitched a valuable partnership of 50 runs. However, MI skipper was scalped by pacer Harshal Patel, right after the powerplay. Kishan was then joined by youngster Dewald Brevis but they both could only manage to add ten runs before a collapse followed.

Mumbai Indians lost four wickets for just two runs

From 60/1, MI lost their four key wickets, while adding just two runs as RCB’s bowlers completely destroyed the their middle order. After the fall of Brevis (8 off 11 balls), Suryakumar Yadav replaced the South African batter. However, Kishan (26 off 28), who was looking good at the crease was scalped by pacer Akash Deep.

Young batter Tilak Varma who is having a good tournament so far, could not manage to open his account, as a brilliant piece of fielding from Australian allrounder Glenn Maxwell caught him short of his ground. Similarly, West Indian batter Kieron Pollard was sent packing by Hasaranga for a duck, as he was caught plumb right in front of the wicket.

Youngster Ramandeep Singh, did try to stay with batter Suryakumar Yadav to form a partnership. However, he too was scalped by Patel for his individual score of six runs. At 79/6, things looked gloomy for MI. But it was a one-man for them with Suryakumar Yadav (68* off 37 balls) standing tall and smashing five fours and six maximums. Jaydev Unadkat also did well to stick with him in the middle as MI managed to recover and post 151 runs in their 20 overs.
