Indian skipper Virat Kohli produced a stunning show in the fifth T20 International against England while opening the innings alongside Rohit Sharma. India had sprung a surprise as the two pillars of the Indian cricket team, walked in the middle to open and stitched a crucial partnership of 94 runs.

On the back of the performance by the captain and vice-captain, India posted a mammoth total of 224 runs on the board and successfully defended the target to win the game by 36 runs and the series by 3-2. After the stunning performance, Virat Kohli had reckoned in the post-match presentation that he will be preparing himself as an opener by opening the innings for his IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) during IPL 2021.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan seemed impressed with Kohli’s decision of opening the innings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as Vaughan believes that the move will provide a much-needed boost to the Bangalore outfit and will make their star-studded batting line-up formidable.

We are going to see some fine innings from Virat Kohli: Michael Vaughan

Vaughan is also expecting some master-class innings from Virat Kohli in the 14th edition of the T20 Extravaganza as the former skipper backed the modern-day batting great to make the most out of the Indian pitches. “He (Kohli) could bat anywhere but I think they (India and RCB) have found something. I think RCB will be a lot stronger by having him at the top of the order,” Vaughan said on Cricbuzz.

“He will be so consistent on those wickets. If you ask any batsman that’s worth any kind of salt ‘Where would you like to bat in India?’, and you’ll get ‘I’ll open the batting please’. I think he will have some fun over the next few months opening the batting. We are going to see some fine innings,” the former England skipper added.

In the last season, Royal Challengers Bangalore had finished at the fourth position in the points table after winning seven league games out of 14 played and collecting 14 points. However, their campaign ended after they lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the eliminator of IPL 2020.
