The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) had been in good rhythm in the first half of the Indian Premier League 2022, however, they have sustained two shattering losses on the trot. They are positioned fifth on the points table with five victories in nine league matches. Currently, they are up against the table-toppers Gujarat Titans at Brabourne Stadium. Ahead of this fixture, former Indian cricketers Deep Dasgupta and Wasim Jaffer discuss the deficiencies of RCB in the ongoing season.
Dasgupta mentioned that RCB was only chasing a total of 144 in the last game but still lost the match due to their lack of confidence. He said that confidence is a key component in all formats of the game, and it will be difficult for the team in the next few matches. Dasgupta added that anyone amongst Virat Kohli or Faf Du Plessis should play the anchor role and stitch crucial partnerships with the other batters to post a strong total on the board.
“In the last league fixture, they weren’t chasing a huge total, but if a couple of wickets fall in quick succession, you are reminded of previous memories. In any of the formats in the game of cricket, it is about confidence, and it’s difficult to get it back. It’s imperative that senior players like Faf or Virat contribute a substantial 50-60 runs and bind the batting unit together,” said Dasgupta on Sky247.net presents ‘Not Just Cricket’ Show on CricTracker.
Batters have to come good for RCB: Wasim Jaffer
Jaffer reckoned that RCB would be demoralised after their disastrous performances in the last two outings. He believes that the team would not want to arrive at a situation of must-win games, and need to turn tables in an immediate manner. The former Indian batter further added that the RCB team has a decent bowling attack, but the batters have to come good for the team in order to secure victories in the upcoming matches.
“Their batting order has collapsed in the last two games, which is demoralizing for the team. If we look at the table, they need a minimum of three wins in the next five league matches. They don’t want to be in a must-win situation. They do have a decent bowling attack with Siraj, [Josh] Hazlewood, Harshal[Patel], and [Wanindu] Hasaranga, but Virat, Faf, DK [Dinesh Karthik], and Maxi [Glenn Maxwell] haven’t scored in the last two matches, and have to come good,” said Wasim Jaffer.
