Really impressed with Umesh Yadav and the way he bowls: Rodney Hogg
Australian pacer Rodney Hogg has stated that Umesh Yadav is perhaps the best bowler in India at the moment. The 27-year old has shown his fitness in recent times with the ball by being an integral part of Anil Kumble’s plans for the Indian cricket team. While the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ishant Sharma have been rested along with many an injury to Mohammad Shami, it is Umesh Yadav who has been a mainstay of the Indian side.
Rodney Hogg, who was perhaps one of Australia’s better pacers during his time with the Aussies in the 1980’s has opened up his views on the Australians touring India. He also added that if Yadav was a part of the Australia pace attack, he would be the beneficiary of upwards of 150 wickets.
“I am really impressed with the way he bowls. If Umesh was in Australia, he would have got over 150 Test wickets by now. He is quick, has a great action but Indian conditions don’t suit fast bowling,” he said.
Rodney Hogg went on to add that the manner in which Mitchell Starc bowled in Sri Lanka was phenomenal. He also added that the fact that the 27-year old took 24 wickets in a series wherein Australia was not only whitewashed but also in conditions that were no where near perfect for pacers was something simply amazing.
“I couldn’t believe what Starc did in Sri Lanka last year (24 wickets from 3 Tests). Those were tough conditions for a player from Australia and he gave it his all. Both Hazlewood and Starc complement each other. Hazlewood makes fast bowling look so easy. In Starc, Smith has someone who can deliver both with the new and old ball,” the 65-year-old told TOI on Friday.
