'Really looking forward' - Twitter excited to watch Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan on ODI debut
Both Kishan and Surya made their T20I debuts together earlier this year against England.
The much-awaited ODI series between India and Sri Lanka commenced on July 18 in Colombo. A lot happened behind the scenes especially in Sri Lankan cricket but finally the Dasun Shanaka-led side faced a young visiting team led by Shikhar Dhawan. India have carried a lot of new faces in their squad as their preferred players are currently in England preparing for the five-match Test series starting from August 4.
For the same reason, all the eyes were on the Indian playing XI and the team decided to hand over debut caps to Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav. The team preferred Kishan ahead of Sanju Samson while Surya was always expected to play given the way he has been batting over the last couple of years in domestic cricket and the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Interestingly, both Kishan and Surya made their T20I debuts together earlier this year at home in the series against England. The former had smashed a scintillating half-century opening the innings while Suryakumar sizzled with the bat a little later in the series. The duo making their ODI debuts is a clear indication that team India wants to have more look at them with T20 World Cup to be played later this year.
Sri Lanka win the toss and opt to bat
Meanwhile, the hosts Sri Lanka have opted to bat first after winning the toss in the first ODI of the three-match series. Apart from debuts in the visiting side, the home team has also handed over the ODI cap to talented batsman Bhanuka Rajapaksa who is expected to bat at number three.
On the other hand, wrist-spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal are set to play together for the first time after a long gap. The other three bowlers in the line-up are Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Krunal Pandya, Deepak Chahar with Hardik Pandya also being an extra option.
Having said that, all the eyes will be the debutants Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav who will first have to do their job on the field before coming out to bat.
