I really love batting with Rohit: Virat Kohli
Both added 230 runs for the second wicket in the third ODI against New Zealand.
The Indian skipper Virat Kohli has revealed that he loves to watch Rohit Sharma batting from the other end and form big partnerships with him. Both of them stitched a match-winning 230 run stand in the decider against New Zealand in Kanpur on Sunday. After losing the wicket of Shikhar Dhawan early, they first consolidated and then launched the counter punch on the opposition which helped India propel to a score of 337 which was just enough to beat the spirited Kiwis.
Virat and Rohit have been involved in so many memorable partnerships in past and it was just another game for the duo as they got together and pummelled the bowlers of New Zealand. They also brought their respective centuries in the process and proved why they are termed as world class batters. This was the fourth time they had added more than 200 runs in ODIs and it is a record in itself. Though they also have a bitter history of running each other out, they love to bat together and win games for their country.
We both understand where the game is going
In a candid interview after the match, Virat Kohli heaped praises on his partner in crime and also said that he is always amazed to watch Rohit Sharma bat. “Another nice series win for us. Well done on your hundred Rohit. It was our fourth double-hundred partnership (in ODIs), may be many more in future,” he said while explaining the understanding between the two when they bat together in the middle.
“Generally when we play together we don’t have to say much because we both understand where the game is going. We both think for the team so it’s always great batting with him because you don’t have to say much. We know if we play our games then the team will benefit and we can score big runs because we both want to play long. Our bowlers and how we pulled back things in the second half? I felt really proud because a lot of times we have given it away before but today in a crunch game which will help us in big tournaments in the future, we really did the job,” Kohli added while praising his bowlers who delivered when it mattered the most.
The 28-year-old was extremely pleased after the series win and also said that he enjoyed all the four double-hundred run stands with Rohit. “It was a great day all-in-all for us. Another special day for us to remember on a personal level and as a team as well. Four double-hundred partnerships now and I have enjoyed each and every one of them. It is always amazing to watch this guy bat from the other end and really love batting with him,” the skipper concluded with a big smile on his face.
