The Indian cricket currently looks perfect in almost all aspects. Though the cricket is going pretty well India still miss their best player during matches. Harsha Bhogle without the best commentator in India was fired by Star Sports out of nowhere for reasons unknown. The reasons are now fairly known after a year or so but Harsha’s expulsion has an equivalent effect of Sachin Tendulkar missing from the Indian squad.

Even for the mega series India vs Australia, the “voice of India” will be missing. A Bengali daily Sangbad Pratidin reported there were a series of incidents that lead to this firing of his. It all started back in 2014 when Bhogle interviewed Murali Vijay during the tour down under. Vijay got out after scoring 53 runs and was immediately asked by the 55-year-old whether he felt bad for not getting a century on that wicket. And to make it worse it was in front of the camera.

Vijay was furious with this question, though he did not lash out on camera he later complained about the same. Scroll forward two years, and it is the World T20 which West Indies famously won. Harsha while commentating said that Kohli was playing more shots than he scored. Kohli scored 24 runs in that match where India just managed to tip Bangladesh in a gut-wrenching match.

The current Indian skipper was unaware of the comments but later on, when he came to know about it he immediately asked: “Why did you make such comments?” Bhogle tried to explain himself through WhatsApp texts but couldn’t calm the angry Virat Kohli down. This also had a big hand to play.

The last nail was the Twitter saga between him and the Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan. The megastar tweeted, “With all due respects, it would be really worthy of an Indian commentator to speak more about our players than others all the time.”

Fuel was added to the fire when the then Indian captain MS Dhoni along with many other fans also retweeted the same. His contract with Star Sports then hit a bump and was never renewed.

All the commentators have to be very conservative with their questions. The days of Sachin, Dravid, Laxman and Sourav are gone. The players who took criticism by their chest and worked positively around it. That is not the case anymore.
