Even after playing at the top level for close to two decades, Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Hafeez still has the passion to go out on the field and do what he loves. But then, in what came as a jolt to the veteran all-rounder ahead of the 2021 T20 World Cup, Hafeez was not offered a central contract for the 2021-22 cricket season.
And, if reports are to be believed, Hafeez does not share a good relationship with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials. In fact, Hafeez’s name was included in Grade C of the centrally contracted cricketers sometime back, but the right-handed batsman did not accept the offer.
And, Hafeez’s refusal to accept the contract did not go down well with some of the PCB officials, and that might have played a role in Hafeez being removed from the list of centrally contracted players.
Younis Khan gives proof of the poor relationship between Mohammad Hafeez and the PCB
Younis Khan, who recently resigned as the batting coach of the Pakistan cricket team has revealed that the PCB officials had warned him to join the bio bubble in England before a specified time. Khan added that he was told that if he failed to do so, he would be meted out the same treatment given to Hafeez.
Also, Hafeez is now over 40 years old and is not getting younger. He has also had a torrid run in the year 2021 with the willow in T20Is. In the 5 innings that he has played this year, the right-handed Hafeez has mustered only 65 runs at an abysmal average of 13.00.
He has also been dismissed for a score of less than 20 in T20Is this year in 4 out of the 5 innings as well. Hafeez is the highest run-scorer for Pakistan in T20Is. He has featured in 106 T20I matches and has amassed 2388 runs at an average of 27.13 and a strike rate of 120.72. The right-handed batsman has also scored 14 half-centuries for his country as well.
Hafeez is also handy with the ball as well. He is the 5th highest wicket-taker for Pakistan and has scalped 55 wickets with the white ball in hand at an average of 23.03.
