Reports: Ashton Agar's wife receives death threat for husband ahead of Australia's tour of Pakistan

As per the latest developments, Australian all-rounder Ashton Agar’s wife Madeleine has been warned that the cricketer should not travel to Pakistan. Notably, Pakistan are set to host Australia in a historic all-format tour, which gets underway on March 4. Three Tests, as many ODIs and a solitary T20I will be played in the tour and Agar has been named in all squads.

Notably, this visit marks Australia’s first assignment on Pakistan soil since 1998. Hence, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) would want all matches to be conducted smoothly. However, it has been reported that Agar’s partner has been subjected to threat on social media. The matter has been reported to PCB and Cricket Australia and an investigation was subsequently conducted.

As per The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age, a team spokesperson has confirmed that Agar was the subject of the death threat. However, the team security has found out that the threat is not credible and has been sent from a fake Instagram account, potentially from India. Meanwhile, Agar was in “good spirits” despite the direct message sent to his wife.

Meanwhile, it must be noted that New Zealand and England also planned to tour Pakistan last year. However, cricket boards of both nations called off the tour due different reasons. Team New Zealand cited security concerns behind their decision and the matter ignited a controversy. However, Australian players have landed in Pakistan and they aren’t much worried about the security factor.

“I think a lot of those doubts were alleviated by the process that CA (Cricket Australia) went through directly talking about security and no doubt the pandemic with COVID… What does that all look like? So yeah, there was a lot of information flowing leading into this series, and I think that information has cleared the thoughts of the players and you know they do have an option not to tour,” said Australia’s interim head coach Andrew McDonald in a press conference.

“They’re jumping on the plane. So that to me says they’re ready to go and they are clear in their mind, that it’s going to be safe and it’s an exciting tour and they’re getting their heads around the cricket as opposed to the other things that potentially can pop into their mind,” he added.
