Reports: BCCI connected Virat Kohli, Ravi Shastri with Rohit Sharma after India skipper's outburst on injury fiasco
Virat Kohli had expressed disappointment over lack of clarity in Rohit's injury matter.
The BCCI connected Virat Kohli, Ravi Shastri with Rohit Sharma through a conference call after India skipper’s outburst in the press conference ahead of the first ODI. The board took the step after the India skipper expressed his disappointment over the lack of communication over Rohit’s injury. Speaking to the media before the first ODI against Australia, Kohli had said that there was lack of clarity on the matter.
Kohli was surprised by Rohit’s decision to return to India instead of going to Australia after the conclusion of IPL 2020. After guiding Mumbai Indians to triumph in the tournament, Rohit had returned home. On the other hand, Team India had left for Australia. Speaking about the same, Kohli had said that he was expecting Rohit Sharma to be with the team.
“Before the selection meeting, we got a mail that he is unavailable, that he has picked up an injury during the IPL. It said that the pros and cons of the injury were explained to him and he understood and he was unavailable. After that he played in the IPL and we all thought he would be on that flight to Australia and we had no information on why he is not travelling with us.
“There has been no information, there has been a lack of clarity. We have been playing the waiting game,” Kohli had said.
BCCI tries to clear the air
According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, the BCCI did not take long to clear the air between the team and Rohit. The report stated that the board arranged for the conference call soon after Kohli’s press conference. Along with Virat Kohli and Rohit, head coach Ravi Shastri and those involved in the opener’s fitness assessment at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore were all part of the conference call.
Chief selector Sunil Joshi also joined the call. Following the call, the team management and other parties decided that a final call on Rohit will be taken after his fitness assessment on December 11. At the same time, the report quoted a BCCI office-bearer as saying that Rohit is likely to go to Australia for the Test series.
