When Bhuvneshwar Kumar was not selected in the Indian Test Squad for the ICC World Test Championship Final and five-match Test series in England, there were many fans who didn’t like his omission. Now a fresh report claims that the Uttar Pradesh bowler doesn’t want to play Test cricket anymore and wants to focus on white-ball cricket.

There were some reasons because of which Bhuvneshwar Kumar was not selected in the 20-member squad which will travel to England sometime. CricTracker discussed some of the speculated reasons in a piece, in which one was the fact that he hasn’t played a single Test since January 2018.

In a recent interaction, a source close to the fast bowler has revealed that he wants to focus more on T20 opportunities. It was said that Bhuvneshwar doesn’t want to play Test cricket anymore and that his drive has gone missing. In recent times, Kumar has struggled with some injuries as well. During the IPL 2021, he missed a couple of matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad, for the same reason

The selectors don’t even see Bhuvi hungry for 10 overs, forget Test cricket: source

“[Bhuvneshwar Kumar is] focusing on the next T20 opportunities coming up…Bhuvneshwar just doesn’t want to play Test cricket anymore. That drive has gone missing. To be honest, the selectors don’t even see Bhuvi hungry for 10 overs, forget Test cricket. It’s Team India’s loss no doubt because if one bowler should have made it to England, it should have been him,” said the source as quoted by the Times Of India.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s record in England is quite brilliant. The player from Meerut first traveled for a Test tour to England in 2014. He returned with 19 wickets from five matches, which included a six-for at the Lord’s Cricket Ground, which was a match-winning performance. He also scored three fifties during the series, aggregating 247 runs. In 2018, he missed the tour due to injury and since then he hasn’t played a single Test match.

In 2021, there is a T20 World Cup at home. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who is a frontline bowler in the white-ball setup will look at that more than anything. In the next two years, there’s another T20 World Cup and a 50-over World Cup in India.
