Reports: Chetan Sharma's selection committee to get renewal in annual meeting
Chetan Sharma-led selection committee is set to get a contract renewal.
Team India endured a horrendous campaign in the T20 World Cup and subsequently got knocked out of the league stage. India’s early exit was indeed astonishing as they stepped into the competition as favourites with several T20 stalwarts in the ranks. However, they couldn’t perform to their potential and suffered humiliating defeats against Pakistan and New Zealand. The same cost them a place in the semi-finals.
Notably, this was the first time since 2012 that India have failed to qualify for the knock-out stage of an ICC event. Owing to the same, the national team’s performance would be one of the main topics of discussion during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the BCCI, scheduled in Kolkata on December 4. There are 24 points in the agenda, most of which are common every year, including financial matters.
Virat Kohli’s future as ODI captain to be discussed?
However, now it would be interesting to see what BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah have to say about India’s performance. Virat Kohli’s future as ODI captain has been a hot topic of discussion lately. However, as per an article in Times Now, there’s no clarity whether this topic will be brought to the table or not.
The team management has also gone under a revamp with Rahul Dravid replacing Ravi Shastri as head coach. Paras Mhambrey, T Dilip, and Vikram Rathour are the other members of the support staff. As per protocols, the financial modalities will also be intimated to the general body.
The development also claims that the Chetan Sharma-led selection committee is set to get a contract renewal. BCCI usually give the selectors a four-year term with a renewal of contract at the end of the first, second, and third year. No selectors in recent times have lost their job due to incompetence.
Chetan Sharma’s committee is also likely to get a renewal unless something drastic happens between now and December 4. There will also be a discussion on the new NCA boss. With Rahul Dravid joining the Indian team as head coach, his former teammate VVS Laxman has emerged as the top choice to head NCA. However, it would be interesting to see if the former cricketer is ready to take the job or not.
