Last week, a report circulated on social media that Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi has tested positive for the Coronavirus. The report also added that the former World Cup-winning skipper was also tested but found negative even as his driver has been contracted with the virus. This had left many stunned in the country.

However, the news has turned out to be fake. An image of a popular news channel Aaj Tak giving the news of Imran Khan’s wife suffering from COVID-19 had gone viral on social media. But it has been found out that it was a morphed image and nothing of such sort has happened.

A popular site BOOM did a fact check to determine the authenticity of the news and reported a multiple issues with the graphic which went viral.

Here’s the tweet:

Story wasn’t available on the news website

According to BOOM, the biggest flaw in the graphic was the blurred logo of Aaj Tak at the top right of the screen. Moreover, the news was nowhere available on its official website as well. Moreover, the app promotion of the news outlet at the bottom right was also blurred while the strip ‘Breaking News’ was improperly inserted at the top left corner.

The image was photoshopped and none of the people associated to Imran Khan have been tested positive for the Coronavirus. The fake news trend has increased all over the world in the wake of the pandemic in the past few weeks and the concerned authorities are making people aware of the same every now and then.

As far as Pakistan is concerned, the country is under lockdown at the moment and more than 7200 Coronavirus cases have been registered so far. Among them 5335 cases are still active while 1765 people have recovered from the virus while 136 people have lost their lives.

The poor people in most of the countries are struggling due to the lockdown and for the same reason, the former pacer Shoaib Akhtar had proposed a charity series between India and Pakistan. But the suggestion met with a lot of criticism among the former cricketers and is unlikely to go ahead.
