Misogynist remarks made by the cricketers Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul on the talk show Koffee with Karan has put them in serious trouble. Even the BCCI sent them show cause notices on Wednesday and sought a reply within 24 hours even as the all-rounder Hardik has apologised publicly on social media. However, the CoA member and the former Indian cricketer Diana Edulji wants both the cricketers to be banned.
While Hardik has already responded to the notice saying that he is ‘sincerely regretful’ of the comments made in the show and didn’t mean to hurt anyone. The cricketer also added in his apology that he got carried away with the nature of the show. Rahul is yet to respond to the board though he didn’t make startling remarks like Pandya.
Primary role is representing the country
According to a report in Times Now, Diana Edulji isn’t happy with the conduct and comments on women of the two cricketers and she wants them to be banned. Even a cricketer like Bishan Singh Bedi was handed a one-match ban after appearing on the television show in the 70s and it remains to be seen if the BCCI takes a stern action towards Hardik Pandya and Rahul.
“Cricketers over the years, even while bonding with film stars, have maintained their distance for the simple reason that their primary role is representing the country. Comments like these don’t show anyone in good light. This is sad. Someone of the stature of Bishen Singh Bedi also did not get away with going on a television show in the 70s and was handed a one-match ban,” the source was quoted as saying by the Times of India.
Meanwhile, both the players are currently in Australia and no wonder their preparations must have affected with all the off-field controversies ahead of the ODI series.
