Team India has been battling with injuries on this trip to the United Kingdom. They’ve missed their lead bowlers Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah in the first couple of Tests. Though nothing can be taken away from the likes of Mohammed Shami and Ishant Sharma who’ve bowled superbly. However, ahead of the third Test, they have been jolted with a major blow as Dinesh Karthik has reportedly injured his finger and will miss the must-win game at Trent Bridge.
Karthik’s prospects to feature in the third Test were looking bleak anyways courtesy of his performances in the first couple of games. He has scored only 21 runs in four innings including a couple of ducks which doesn’t look good at all. He was expected to bat with the tail-enders but hasn’t lasted much thereby putting pressure on the other batsmen.
Pant set to debut
The renowned commentator, Harsha Bhogle, while speaking to Cricbuzz, revealed that Karthik has injured his finger probably during the Lord’s Test where a few balls were staying low and he was hit a couple of times. “We are seeing a lot of Rishabh Pant here actually. With Dinesh Karthik, I don’t know if the finger injury is hurting as well. But Pant is looking in the thick of the things,” he said.
Interestingly, Karthik hasn’t batted much in the nets as well and was seen doing throwdowns after the team reached Trent Bridge on Thursday. Definitely, there will be a few more changes to India’s line-up as Bumrah looks set to strengthen the bowling attack by replacing Kuldeep Yadav who was unfortunate to feature at Lord’s.
It also remains to be seen if Shikhar Dhawan returns at the top of the order after being dropped in the second Test at the iconic Lord’s.
