Reports: ICC in touch with ACB, closely monitoring situation in Afghanistan

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has been informed of the developments in Afghanistan where the situation in the past few days has been quite bad. The Taliban’s takeover has put the country into extreme chaos. The takeover was sudden and the updates coming out from Afghanistan suggest that the country is in misery at this point.

The ICC, though, has been in touch with the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) and is getting regular updates on the developments which have been happening in the capital city of Kabul. The Taliban entered the capital and took over the country as the country’s political leaders had to fly away and escape the situation. 

As per a report of Times of India, the ICC is monitoring the situation in Kabul and will remain in touch with the officials of the ACB. The situation right now has put some uncertainty over the participation of Afghanistan in the ICC T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates, which is set to begin on October 17. 

Afghanistan Cricket Board trying to organize T20 tri-series with West Indies and Australia

Afghanistan team media manager Hikmat Hasan recently revealed that the team will take part in the world event despite the current situation. It was also revealed that the team will be back in training in Kabul in some time. Afghanistan is also scheduled to play a three-match ODI series against Pakistan in Sri Lanka next month, but there is doubt regarding that series as well. 

The Afghanistan Cricket Board is currently trying to finalize a venue for hosting a tri-series with West Indies and Australia. This proposed series will be played in the T20 format and will be presented as a preparation for the World Cup. As far as the Taliban takeover is concerned, the group has previously expressed that it has no issues with cricket or the players. 

There are certain areas of concern for the ACB regarding  Afghanistan women’s team too, which recently saw 25 players getting annual contracts. Apart from this, there have been changes made in the administration, which can again attract some attention from the ICC.
