Amidst all the hype around the next edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the upcoming mega auction is desperately awaited by all the fans. In what comes as major news, the IPL Governing Council has
decided to conduct the 2022 IPL mega auction in the first week of February, after extending the deadline for the draft pick for the two new franchises.

According to Cricket.com, the IPL GC has already given the details to all the teams. However, the lack of clarity regarding a final decision on the CVC Sports’ association in the IPL has propelled the board to delay the auction process. The report further stated that the auction is all set to be a two-day affair, just like the other mega auctions in the past.

As a matter of fact, with the addition of two new teams, the 2022 mega auction is going to be bigger than the one which took place in 2018. As the screening process is comparatively better in Bangalore and Hyderabad, the reports state that the mega-event will be taking place in either of these two cities. Thus the mega auction could take place anywhere in the first week of February 2022.

CVC Sports await clearance from BCCI

Irrespective of the hype revolving around the two new teams, the Ahmedabad franchise, which was bought by CVC Capital Partners for INR 5625 crore, is yet to get the letter of intent from the BCCI. In fact, the matter sits with the Solicitor General of India, Tushar Mehta.

However, a clear decision from him hasn’t arrived as of now. According to Cricbuzz, the BCCI had formed a committee to look into the business roots of the company which has apparently made investments in a betting firm in the UK. While the Gujrat-based franchise haven’t made any progress in terms of signings, apart from roping in former IMG director Peter Griffith, it seems like they will have the nod by the end of this month.

Tentatively speaking, IPL 2022 is set to start in April. However, contrary to the last few seasons, this edition is going to last longer due to the addition of two new franchises. The last time a season saw ten teams participate was way back in 2011.
