England have had a humiliating journey in the ongoing Ashes where the hosts have once again retained the urn. Australia won the first three Test matches on the trot to grab the unassailable 3-0 lead and put visitors on the backfoot. Due to all these events, English skipper Joe Root has come under major scrutiny for his team’s dismal performance.

The talks in the cricketing fraternity are on that he should step down from his role after the Ashes debacle. However, as per the latest reports, it has been known that Root wishes to continue his role and has told his teammates about the same. The English skipper wishes to continue leading the team even if the result of the next two Tests isn’t in their favor and also talked of having great dressing room support.

Talking in the same context, Geoffrey Boycott recently stated that Root should step down from his position as he is turning a blind eye to all the facts. England can’t bat, their bowling is just ordinary and players are not able to do well under him, asserted Boycott.

Will Joe Root please stop saying Australia are not much better than us? says Boycott

“Now, Australia are 3-0 up and the Ashes have gone, will Root please stop saying Australia are not much better than us? I don’t mind him living in cuckoo land but stop trying to kid us. If he really believes what he says then maybe it is time he gave up the captaincy of the England cricket team. The facts are staring us all in the face, except Joe doesn’t want to see it. England can’t bat. Our bowling is ordinary,” wrote Boycott in his column for The Telegraph.

“If he really believes what he says then maybe it is time he gave up the captaincy of the England cricket team. The facts are staring us all in the face, except Joe doesn’t want to see it. England can’t bat. Our bowling is ordinary. Nobody would want to give up the captaincy, but it is not about Joe — it is about getting guys to perform better,” added Boycott.
