Pakistan cricket received a major setback soon after the commencement of the second edition of the PSL. The spot fixing scandal came back to haunt the Pakistan cricket. Pakistan internationals Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif were sent back home for their alleged involvement in spot-fixing and according to reports, PCB Chairman Shaharyar Khan had stated that they have strong evidence against the southpaw.
Now, as per the recent reports in Geo.tv, the tainted player Khalid Latif has agreed to be the approver of the entire case. He expressed this during the interrogations made by the officials recently. Apparently, he did so in a video statement that was given to the PCB on February 9. The board has not confirmed the same yet. Any official remark from the board or the officials is still awaited. However, the PCB did issue the show cause notices to both the players recently.
They demanded a proper explanation about why did the two players get in link with the international syndicate, who has been identified as Yousuf. Soon after reaching back Pakistan, Khalid Latif was seen consulting the lawyers to serve his case. In the only media statement that he gave during this phase, he claimed to be innocent. He had quoted, “God is witness to this, I never did anything wrong.”
Despite all his claims, the sources close to the board have confirmed that the PCB has enough evidence to prove the two players guilty. Thus, it comes as no surprise why Khalid has apparently chosen to be the approver of the entire incident and also disclose the details of all the people involved in this. This will help his case in the court as his punishment can then be marginalized or minimalized. It will be worth watching how the scene fares up in the next couple of days as the statements from the players are changing the dimensions of the case.
