The ongoing brouhaha surrounding the Indian cricket has taken a fresh turn with new reports surfacing the media. In the recent times, the reports of rifts between Indian captain Virat Kohli and former coach Anil Kumble have been doing the rounds. Apparently, the tussle was so intense that the two had stopped communicating almost 6 months ago.
All of this boiled down to Anil Kumble’s unceremonious exit as the coach of the national side after he stepped down from the position. Many blamed Virat Kohli for the abrupt exit of the legendary cricketer. Now, some reports suggest that things were far worse than the apparent situation. A source quoted to The Telegraph that had Anil Kumble not stepped down as the coach of the Indian team, the skipper Kohli would have resigned from his position.
Kohli was very adamant in ending the tenure of Kumble as the coach of the national side. He had informed the CoA and the BCCI regarding the same as well. He had made it clear that the current setup cannot work with him and Kumble working together.
“Kohli had been adamant that Kumble couldn’t continue as the head coach and that the Board needed to look for a replacement…. That, it seems, was communicated to the Committee of Administrators’ chief Vinod Rai, besides top officials of the Board and, of course, the CAC…. Had the Board gone ahead and implemented Sachin, Sourav and Laxman’s recommendation, then Kohli would almost surely have resigned,” a source quoted in The Telegraph.
A little too sour
While many would have thought that the issue is being portrayed in a very negative way, the series of events that have perspired only strengthens the claims of things being a little too sour. Kumble, in his note addressed for the media and fans, revealed that Virat Kohli had issues with his style of working. Kohli also deleted the welcome tweet that he had posted for Anil Kumble last year.
