Reports: MCA owes INR 14.82 crore to Mumbai Police for providing security during matches
IPL 2022 league stage is currently being played in Maharashtra across four venues (3 in Mumbai and 1 in Pune).
In the latest news development, a Mumbai police officer has claimed that the Mumbai Cricket Association owes an amount of 14.82 Crores to the City Police for the security cover they provided in various cricket matches. The concerned amount relates to the Women’s World Cup, T20, Test, and One-Day matches, which have been hosted by Mumbai cricket Association over the years.
With the COVID concerns still looming, the venues Wankhede Stadium, Brabourne Stadium, and DY Patil Stadium are hosting the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 as well. More than 1000 police personnel have been deployed for the smooth movement of the team buses.
According to a report in News18, the official further claimed that the Mumbai Cricket Association has already paid an amount of Rs 4.20 crore for the security provided by the City Police during the IPL matches, and no amount is outstanding in that aspect.
Mumbai- Center Stage of Indian Cricket
Mumbai city has been at the center stage of cricket in India for the last few decades, and there has been a lot of hard work done by the police officers to successfully organize the tournament.
The Women’s ODI World Cup was hosted by India in 2013, with Mumbai and Cuttack acting as the two venues. In Mumbai, the matches were played on multiple grounds like Bandra Kurla Complex, Middle Income Ground, and Brabourne Stadium.
From this ongoing IPL season, the green corridors have also been provided by the Mumbai Police to ensure the players reach the venue on time and don’t get stuck in the traffic. The Mumbai Police is reportedly taking special care of avoiding traffic jams near the venues like Wankhede and Brabourne Stadiums. Additionally, each IPL team is provided with a police escort and special security due to the matches being scheduled at peak traffic hours.
A few days back, Mumbai Traffic Police’s joint commissioner Rajvardhan Sinha had said, “We are ensuring that IPL teams reach the stadiums from their hotels for games as well as for practice in time, and at the same time, common people should not suffer.”
