Delhi Capitals all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has tested positive for Covid-19 and will remain in isolation alongside four other members who have been identified as close contacts. Delhi’s physio Patrick Farhart was the first to test positive for the virus this year from the IPL squads and post that, there were reports of an overseas player, who has shown mild symptoms – had tested positive in Rapid Antigen Test and was to undergo RT-PCR.

This led to the players getting into isolation in their rooms and there seemed to be a slight panic developed in the squad as well. One doctor, one social media and 3 hotel staff on Delhi Capitals’ duty had tested positive according to reports while the positive news remains that every other player in the squad has returned negative Tests.

Delhi Capitals will take on the Punjab Kings in their next encounter on Wednesday (20 April) and a call on the match to undergo as scheduled is likely to be taken only after the test results of the two days. The franchise also gave an official statement confirming the development.

“Delhi Capitals all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has tested positive for COVID-19, following which he has been admitted to a hospital. The Delhi Capitals medical team is closely monitoring Marsh’s condition. A few more members from the Delhi Capitals bio-bubble, including support staff members, have returned positive tests as well. Though they are all asymptomatic, their condition is being monitored closely by the franchise.

“All remaining members of the bubble are currently in isolation in their respective rooms, and will be tested regularly,” the statement from the Capitals read.

What are the rules?

The BCCI this year had noted ahead of the start of the IPL that the tournament will go on if there are 12 players available in both squads. There has been a provision from BCCI this year to postpone games if Covid-19 takes a toll and could be scheduled later to make up for the missed days. However, the situation hasn’t gone to that extent and the Delhi Capitals will be hoping that the players test negative for Covid-19 to make sure that the tournament is not halted by any means.
