Reports: MS Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir may campaign for BJP in 2019 elections; also to be offered LS tickets

MS Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir have been widely regarded as stars of the 2011 World Cup final. Their partnership at the biggest stage of all was the reason India lifted the title. Now according to the latest reports, both the high profile cricketers who enjoy an enormous fan following across the country are going to step on a different field altogether.

We may as well see both the cricketers campaigning for the Bharati Janti Party(BJP) ahead of the 2019 General Assembly Elections. A report from the Sunday Guardian Live quoted sources from the party confirming that talks were being held to pitch in the high profile cricketers. It will be a huge boost as their presence will add a lot of value to the party’s campaign.

Gambhir expected to contest from Rajinder Nagar constituency

A senior BJP leader also mentioned that Gambhir might as well be the party’s candidate from Rajinder Nagar constituency as the current candidate wasn’t being well received by the people. The BJP is planning to field Gambhir there. The cricketer has been working extensively on social issues of late and thus would be the best choice for the party.

“Reports from the ground about Meenakshi Lekhi are not good. The party leadership has decided that she will not be repeated this time as a candidate from New Delhi. Gautam Gambhir, in most likelihood, will be the party’s candidate from the same seat. He has wide acceptability and is known for his social work. He is a Delhiite and will do his best for the people of Delhi.”

Gambhir and Dhoni joining the party will be an asset for us

Alongside Gambhir, reports suggested that even MS Dhoni was being roped in as a probable candidate from Jharkhand. Since he is still an active cricketer, it remains to be seen if Dhoni will contest the election. The senior member of the party acknowledged the same and expects their association to boost BJP.

“Both players have wide acceptability, respect and credibility across the country and are regarded as leaders by all sections of society. They are not only leaders from their respective states, but also leaders of the country. Dhoni is currently the captain of the Chennai Super Kings team playing at the IPL and thus has reach and mass base even in the southern parts of India. Both these players joining the party will be an asset for us,” the senior leader was quoted as saying by Sunday Guardian Live.
