In what can be called a major development, MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma have been retained by their respective Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises ahead of the mega auction. Notably, all the eight existing sides were asked to submit their list of retained players by Tuesday (November 30). With a mega auction taking place ahead of the 2022 edition, each side can retain a maximum of just four players.

Each franchise can spend a maximum of INR 42 crore from their salary purse of INR 90 crore to retain players. Meanwhile, reports have emerged that many franchises have finalized their list of retained players. While Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals have retained all their four retention cards, Sunrisers Hyderabad are the only side to retain only one player in Kane Williamson.

Venkatesh Iyer, Varun Chakravarthy have been retained by KKR

Meanwhile, the reported list of retentions was carried out by ESPNcricinfo. As per the media house, CSK have retained Ravindra Jadeja, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Moeen Ali alongside Dhoni. KKR have gone with Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Varun Chakravarthy and Venkatesh Iyer while the likes of Shubman Gill and Pat Cummins have been left out.

Delhi Capitals have also confirmed their retention list with Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw, Axar Patel and Anrich Nortje set to serve them in the next season. This means Shreyas Iyer and Shikhar Dhawan would either land in the auction or get picked by one of the two new franchises. Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore have confirmed two players apiece so far.

While MI have retained Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah, RCB have gone with Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell. As far as Rajasthan Royals are concerned, Sanju Samson has been their only confirmed retention so far.

Here’s a look at the reported retention list of IPL teams
