Reports: MSK Prasad-led selection committee set to continue

The selection committee led by MSK Prasad is all set to extend their tenure despite the recent verdict from Supreme Court. It was earlier reported that the panel consisting of Prasad, Devang Gandhi and Sarandeep Singh is unlikely to get an extension after the Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra and justices DY Chandrachud and A M Khanwilkar were in favour of the five-member selection committee for senior, junior and women’s cricket.

Earlier, Gagan Khoda and Jatin Paranjpe were also the part of the panel. But then were sidelined as it was recommended that the committee should comprise of the former Test cricketers. Khoda and Paranje have only played One-Day Internationals for India which forced them to stay on the sidelines.

No change until elections

According to the reports in Bangalore Mirror, there will be no immediate change in the selection panel at least until the elections in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Also, if needed, the Supreme Court appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) may consult the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) to add a couple more selectors to the panel. CoA will meet on August 20 or 21 and the final decision will be taken on the same.

CAC also had its role in the selection of India head coach who had first picked Anil Kumble at the helm. But then things didn’t go well between him and the captain Virat Kohli despite the fact that the team was winning comfortably during their home season. After losing the final of the Champions Trophy last year, Kumble resigned and Ravi Shastri replaced him who earlier had the experience of working as the Manager of the team.

There will also be some more serious discussions in the meeting as the constitution of BCCI will be finalised and sent to the registrar of Tamil Nadu Societies.
