Delhi Capitals are all set to face the Chennai Super Kings in an important fixture on May 8 (Sunday) and prior to the game, they have faced an early setback with one of their net bowlers having tested positive for Covid-19. The player has been isolated alongside his roommate. This means that the other players will go through another round of testing as well according to the BCCI protocols this year.
DC has been the most affected team so far in IPL 2022 due to Covid-19 as the likes of Mitchell Marsh and Tim Seifert tested positive last month and they had to miss a few games. In fact, in Marsh’s case, he had to be admitted to the hospital to undergo treatment and he was back in the squad last week after recovering completely.
The cases did not stop there as four of the staff members had also tested positive and they had to undergo isolation. Due to a number of players testing positive in the Delhi Capitals camp, the players of the franchise were not allowed to shake hands with the opponents after the match for safety issues. The venues had also been changed to restrict travel and ensure that the virus doesn’t spread from place to place.
“The change of venue has been triggered due to (then) five COVID-19 positive cases in the Delhi Capitals contingent,” BCCI said in a statement earlier. For the unversed, head coach Ricky Ponting had also isolated himself due to one of his family members testing positive for Covid-19 earlier and he wasn’t present in the dugout for a game.
Despite all this, however, COVID has managed to inflitrate the DC camp as a net bowler contracted the virus. Notably, this major report was carried out by the Indian Express.
Delhi Capitals’ strong performance against Sunrisers Hyderabad
Despite all the fuss around Covid-19 spreading inside the camp, the Delhi Capitals have managed to keep their hopes alive for the playoffs after a stupendous performance against SRH in the previous game. With five wins and five losses, Delhi Capitals are at the fifth position in the points table and have a good chance of qualifying if they manage to win all their remaining games.
