Reports: Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone's 83 lands in legal trouble ahead of release

Ranveer Singh-starrer 83 has already created a lot of hype and fans can’t wait to enjoy the film on theaters. The sports drama is based on India’s emphatic triumph in the 1983 World Cup. The movie, which is set to hit the silver screen on December 24, will show how the Kapil Dev-led side defied all the odds and lifted the title in England.

Meanwhile, the film has made it to the headlines yet again but for wrong reasons this time around. The movie might be in trouble as a complaint has been filed against the makers for cheating. Veteran actress Deepika Padukone, who is one of the producers of the film, has also been dragged into this controversial case. This episode might even hamper the release of the much-awaited movie.

Complaint filed against all producers of 83

As per a report in The Times of India, a UAE-based financer claimed that his company invested approximately INR 16 crore in 83 and was promised good returns by Vibri Media. However, the businessman didn’t get what was promised and he subsequently filed a complaint against the makers of 83 at the Andheri Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Mumbai.

Reports in the daily also claimed that the financer’s funds were directed into multiple agreements involving producer Sajid Nadiadwala, director Kabir Khan and Deepika Padukone among others. The capital was apparently used for the production of the movie but without getting any written consent or agreement from the businessman.

Advocate Rizwan Siddiquee, who’s handling this case for the businessman, claimed in a statement that his client has filed a complaint against all the producers of 83 on the grounds of cheating and criminal conspiracy.

Speaking of the film, expectations are sky high from the Kabir Khan-directorial. After all, several prominent actors will be in action including Pankaj Tripathi, Boman Irani, Harrdy Sandhu, Ammy Virk and Saqib Saleem besides Ranveer and Deepika. The first trailer of the movie was released on November 30 and fans were mighty impressed. The close to four-minute trailer takes one through quite a few iconic moments that paved the way to the historic victory of the Indian cricket team.
