Reports: Ravi Ashwin set to miss the home West Indies series
The squad selection for the West Indies series is expected soon.
India is all set to play six-match white-ball series against West India at home, set to commence on February six. The series which will unfold three ODIs followed by as many T20Is is set to welcome the new skipper Rohit Sharma, who missed the entire SA series due to a hamstring injury. According to the latest reports, ace spinner Ravi Ashwin will be missing the home series against WI.
It has to be noted that Ashwin recently returned to India’s white-ball set up and his performance got appreciated in T20 WC 2021. However, reports by Cricbuzz suggest that the ace spinner is in to receive some treatment which will not allow him to be part of the action for at least three weeks.
The squad selection for the West Indies series was likely for January 25 itself but got postponed due to the unavailability of Rahul Dravid and a few selectors. Talking in terms of Ashwin, the management is looking forward to managing his workload so that he doesn’t miss on important Test series. It is being expected that the senior bowler will return to action for the Sri Lanka series in February-March.
Ravi Ashwin strangely came back into India’s ODI plans for some reason: Manjrekar
Ashwin was the part of the recently concluded ODI series against South Africa where the guests got whitewashed and the spinner couldn’t shine much with the ball. Many experts added that he is not the perfect fit for limited-overs games and should be kept for Tests only. Sanjay Manjrekar even added that India paid the price of including him in the ODI series.
“Ashwin strangely came back into India’s ODI plans for some reason. India paid a price for that. He played the two crucial games, did nothing much. (Yuzvendra) Chahal also under the scanner. Prasidh Krishna needs to be backed a bit more. Also, in 50-overs, Mohammed Shami can be a good option,” said Manjrekar earlier.
The ODIs against West Indies will be played in Ahmedabad while the three T20Is will see the light of the day in Kolkata from February 16.
