In what can be called a shocking development, Ravindra Jadeja is likely to announce retirement from Test cricket. One of the finest all-rounders going around, the southpaw has been a cornerstone of the Test team in recent years and his numbers are also staggering. The left-arm spinner can take crucial wickets and his ability to score handy runs lower down the order makes him even more effective.
Now, who can forget about his fielding capabilities? These skills make Jadeja a captain’s delight in the longest format of the game. In fact, he has been considered over star off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin in overseas Tests. However, it has been learn’t that the 33-year-old might bid adieu to Test cricket to prolong his white-ball career.

Meanwhile, one of Jadeja’s teammate has told Dainik Jagran that the all-round might farewell to Test cricket. Notably, Jadeja had suffered a forearm injury during the home series against New Zealand last month and had to sit out the final Test. Owing to the same issue, he is not part of the Test squad for the South Africa series either. While fans are expecting him to make a comeback soon, the all-rounder may not feature in Test matches anymore.
Speaking of Jadeja’s staggering numbers in Test cricket, the left-handed batter has featured in 57 Tests, scoring 2195 runs at an average of 33.76. He also has a hundred to his name. Jadeja has also bagged 232 wickets at an average of just under 25 and an economy of 2.41. Notably, he’s the fastest left-arm bowler to complete 200 wickets in Test cricket, achieving the feat in his 44th game in 2019.
Meanwhile, India are scheduled to play three Tests in South Africa, starting from December 26 with the Boxing Day taking place at the Supersport Park in Centurion. Besides Jadeja, the likes of Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and Axar Patel will also give the Test series a miss due to fitness issues. Hence, it would be interesting to see how the visiting team’s playing XI would look like. With Axar and Jadeja being unavailable, Ashwin is likely to get a nod as the first-choice spinner.
