Reports: Rohit Sharma might return home mid-way through the Test series
He sat out of the second Test due to back injury.
India went down like nine pins on the fifth and final day in Perth. The series is now levelled at 1-1 with Boxing Day Test still eight days away. Things are not getting easy for the visitors by any means due to the injury issues and openers not contributing at all. Meanwhile, they might also miss Rohit Sharma as he is reportedly set to return to India mid-way through the Test series.
According to India Today Sports Editor Vikrant Gupta, Rohit Sharma is coming back home to attend his wife Ritika Sajdeh who is pregnant and is likely to give a birth to a baby. Though nothing is clear as the official word from Team India or the BCCI has not come yet. But if this is the case, India will once again be short of options even as Rohit missed the second Test with a back injury.
Rohit – The Test player
Rohit Sharma was given a nod ahead of Hanuma Vihari in the series opener in Adelaide but he blew away a chance to cement his position. While the Indian limited-overs opener looked good during his 37-run knock in the first innings only to throw it away with an atrocious shot.
The second innings was even worse for him as Nathan Lyon got the better of him when the pitch was turning a lot. Moreover, the injury will affect his place in the Test side as well now. Hanuma Vihari has done nothing wrong to be dropped and with Hardik Pandya coming back and Prithvi Shaw ruled out, India have a lot of selection issues.
It will be interesting to see if Mayank Agarwal gets his international debut in the next Test with KL Rahul and Murali Vijay both not performing.
