Reports: Salman Butt to be considered for Pakistan selection; likely to comeback against Australia
Salman Butt's last appearance for Pakistan came in 2010 against England where he was caught with the charges of match-fixing.
Pakistan recently lost a T20I series against Sri Lanka on their soil. After a humiliating series defeat, the national team was brought under the criticism and former cricketers came out in order to ask for an overhaul for its betterment. But, there are certain reports over Salman Butt’s future.
The Pakistan team players are currently involved in domestic T20 competition with six teams taking part in it. Big players have enrolled in this tournament like Babar Azam, Ahmed Shehzad, Mohammad Rizwan among several others. Many domestic players will also try their best to catch the eyes of the national selector.

Salman Butt, once caught in a match-fixing scandal, is also featuring in this tournament from Central Punjab. He was banned by the ICC in 2010 for his involvement in fixing. His ban was lifted back in 2015 by the apex council. After that, it’s been long that he has neglected by the selectors for the national team. Alongside Butt, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif were also found guilty. But, Amir has cemented his spot in the team with Butt is still due for his comeback.
As per the reports in Bussiness Recorder, the former skipper will be considered for the selection in the upcoming national assignments. The selector will come onto a conclusion for finalizing the Test and T20I squads after having a meeting with the coaches in upcoming week. Misbah-ul-Haq had earlier made it clear that domestic T20 competition is an opportunity for everyone to prove themselves as an eligible candidate for the national team.
35-year-old has played in 33 Tests, 78 ODIs and 24 T20Is before getting suspended. In that, he managed to get more than 4,500 international runs across all the formats. Pakistan team’s upcoming assignment is to play against Australia. They need to play a three-match T20I series and two Tests.
This is the first time that Pakistan will be involved in a Test series since ICC Test Championship got underway. Pakistan is one of the two nations that is still due to open their account in the inaugural season of the Championship that will see its final in June 2021.
