Reports: Sarfaraz Ahmed warns Pakistan players about the possible public outrage back home

Pakistan has had a horrendous outing in the 2019 edition of the World Cup in England and Wales. Their start wasn’t an auspicious one as Windies slapped them with a shambolic seven-wicket defeat. That drubbing also hit their Net Run Rate to a significant extent. Thereafter, the Men in Green rolled over hosts and favorites England by 14 runs at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham.

Their next game against Sri Lanka at the County Ground in Bristol got washed off due to rain. Thereafter, Sarfaraz Ahmed and Co lost to Australia and India, and are now placed ninth in the points table. Their next encounter is versus South Africa on June 23, at the Lord’s in London. In the meantime, the Pakistan captain is worried about the repercussions it might have.

Sarfaraz Ahmed issues a warning

According to reports in Thenews.com.pk, it has been learned that Sarfaraz got emotional after the defeat on Sunday. He is tensed to such an extent that he has issued a warning to his teammates, saying that he won’t be ‘the only one going back home’. He suggested that if things don’t change for the better, everyone in the team will have to face the outrage of the public at home.

“If anyone thinks that I will go home, then it is their idiocy. If God forbid something unfortunate happens then I won’t be the only one going back home,” Sarfaraz reportedly said. He urged the team to park the disappointments aside and bring forth their A-game in the upcoming encounters.

As per reports, head coach Mickey Arthur and the senior players in the team refrained from making any comments on Sarfaraz’s speech. From here on, Pakistan needs to win their remaining four matches and also get favourable results in the other matches in order to progress to the semi-finals.

In 2019, Pakistan has won only three ODIs, versus South Africa and England. Apart from that, they lost as many as 15 matches and doesn’t look in the greatest of shapes by any means. For the time being, Pakistan’s hopes of making a comeback in the ongoing World Cup look bleak.
