The Indian cricket team’s captain marvellous MS Dhoni’s career and life have been a widely discussed in the cricketing fraternity and around. His biopic MS Dhoni: The Untold story that released in 2016 talked about his life before making his maiden appearance in the Indian cricket team to the World Cup 2011 victory. The movie was equally successful on the box office as well.

However, a lot has happened in his personal and professional career since then. There was the Champions Trophy 2013 victory, his decision to retire from Tests in the middle of a Test series in Australia, Team India’s semi-final run in the World Cup 2015, the birth of his daughter Ziva and CSK’s run in the IPL. He was inducted into the Indian Army as a Lt. Colonel in November 2011 and he has proudly worn the uniform.

RSVP Films to produce the movie

Reports now suggest that Bollywood producer Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP Films is planning a sequel of the movie. There are no details available on who will direct the movie. Actor Sushant Singh Rajput who portrayed the character of Dhoni in the first movie is expected to play the lead character once again in the sequel. At the same time, it hasn’t been confirmed yet either by the production house or the actor but Mid-day quoted a source close to Rajput saying that things are being discussed.

“There is the [Dhoni-led Chennai’] thrilling win against Bangalore at the T20 [this year, that can be depicted in the film]. Apart from that, India’s steady run, up to the semi-finals, at the 2015 World Cup will find a place in the narrative,” said the source.

Chennai Super Kings making a comeback to the IPL after spending a couple of years in suspension won the title this season beating all odds. Skipper Dhoni himself was at his very best with the bat and rolled time back to the previous decade where he would tonk the ball at will, thrash bowlers and finish crunch matches in favour of his team.

The movie is expected to hit the floors in 2019, which could be after the conclusion of the 50-overs World Cup in England. This will be Dhoni’s last appearance in any major ICC event unless he decides to play the World T20 in 2020.
