The eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) recently concluded as the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were deservedly crowned Champions. They stunned the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the final at the Wankhede Stadium and gunned down the total of 179 runs with utter ease. However, the fever of the next season has already settled in and the cash-rich T20 league will start on March 29 in 2019.

The ICC World Cup will commence on May 30 next year in England which coincides with the normal schedule of the IPL. Every year the marquee league begins in the first or second week of April and the extravaganza continues until the end of May. But the same won’t be the case next year as the players would need proper rest ahead of the World Cup and the key cricketers might not even participate in the league.

IPL out of India?

According to the reports in Times of India, the IPL will kick off on March 29 next year which is a week ahead of the usual start. This decision might have been taken due to a couple of main reasons, General Elections in India and the ICC World Cup 2019. There is a possibility that the elections might take place during the same period due to which the BCCI will have to ponder about shifting the tournament fully or partially to another country. There will be an issue of security forces if elections take place during the IPL.

Reportedly, the present Government is mulling to conduct the elections at the end of the ongoing year which will be a good news for the Indian board as they will not have to shift the tournament abroad then. The same had happened in 2009 and 2014 when South Africa and UAE had respectively hosted the cash-rich tournament. Moreover, it will also be interesting to see if BCCI abide by the rules of the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) of keeping a gap of at least 15 days between the end of IPL and next International series.
